Buying a wine fridge?

I'm not a wine drinker, I love my single malts. Some close mates are wine lovers and they swear by their wine fridges. Here's some tips I've put together for you based off of their advice:

  • Consider the quantity and type of wine you drink: If you only drink a glass or two of wine at a time, a wine chiller may not be necessary. However, if you enjoy hosting parties or have a collection of red, white, and sparkling wines, a wine chiller can help preserve their quality and flavour.

  • Check your budget: Wine chillers can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on their features and capacity. If you're on a tight budget, you may want to consider a smaller or more basic wine chiller.

  • Look for temperature control and stability: Temperature control is essential for preserving the quality and taste of wine. Look for a wine chiller that allows you to adjust the temperature to your liking and maintains a consistent temperature.

  • Check the capacity: Wine chillers come in different sizes and capacities, ranging from a few bottles to dozens of bottles. Consider the amount of wine you plan to store and the available space in your home before choosing a wine chiller.

  • Look for UV protection: UV rays can damage wine and affect its flavour. Look for a wine chiller with UV protection, such as a tinted glass door or a solid door. This may not be as necessary if the wine fridge sits alongside a kitchen/butler's pantry/man-cave etc. After all, wine fridges don't sit in the patio. It's not beer, for Christ's sake!

  • Consider the noise level: Wine chillers can be noisy, especially when the compressor is running. If you plan to place your wine chiller in a living space, consider a model with a low noise level.

  • Check the warranty and customer reviews: A good warranty can protect you from unexpected repairs or replacements. Additionally, reading customer reviews can give you an idea of the wine chiller's performance and reliability.

In Australia, there are a variety of wine chiller options available. Here are some examples of affordable and reliable wine chillers:

  • Vintec 30 Bottle Wine Chiller: This wine chiller is compact and affordable, with adjustable temperature controls and UV-resistant glass.

  • Hisense 46 Bottle Wine Chiller: This wine chiller is larger and can hold up to 46 bottles, with adjustable temperature controls and a low noise level.

  • Kogan 8 Bottle Wine Cooler: If you're on a tight budget, this wine cooler is a good option for storing a small collection of wines. It has adjustable temperature controls and a compact design.

Remember to consider your budget, the amount and type of wine you plan to store, and the features you need before choosing a wine chiller.
